- developing & achieving your educational goals
The program provides important, required steps for you to take prior to beginning your coursework:
- Submission of a Columbia College application to the Admissions and Records Office.
- An assessment battery, consisting of English, Math and Reading.
- An orientation program which provides you with information about college services, programs, dates, terms and processes.
- An academic advisement in which assistance is given in developing a semester program of studies.
New students who have completed the above steps will be granted the opportunity for an early registration appointment using the Columbia College touchstone telephone registration process

Complete the admission application on the college website at http://www.gocolumbia.edu. Applications are also available on campus, as well as at off site locations. Please allow a minimum of 10 working days for application processing.
Application:
No Appointments are required for Assessment, Orientation or Advisement.
Attend one of the assessment sessions at the time and date of your choice, listed at the bottom of this page. The assessment is an un-timed computerized test that requires no computer experience. A valid photo ID and Columbia College student ID number are required for admittance. The student ID number is located in the upper right hand corner of the acceptance letter. The first session begins at the time indicated below. Students are admitted on a first-come, first-served basis. No one will be admitted to the assessment session after the hour indicated below. The assessment is in Buckeye 4. Assessment:
Following completion of the assessment, students attend a college orientation session which provides valuable information on student services, course selection, schedule planning, certificate and degree programs, transfer requirements, and college policies and procedures. This session is extremely helpful to new and/or returning students. See below for Orientation/Advisement start times. Orientation/Advisement is in Cedar 1. Orientation/Advisement:

After completion of your first successful semester (or 15 cumulative credit units), it is necessary for you to sign up for an educational plan workshop. According to your major and goal, a plan will be designed to assist in completion of all necessary requirements for receipt for a degree, certificate and/or transfer to another college or university.
Exemption Categories
Students meeting the following criteria are exempt from all or part of the Student Success matriculation program:
- students holding an associate degree or higher
- students enrolled only in activity courses for which there is no basic skill prerequisite
- students enrolled in community services and non-unit bearing courses only
- students enrolled only in contract education or courses for in-service training
Challenge Procedures for the Matriculation Process
A student may challenge the required participation in matriculation if they do not meet the exemption categories. The challenge must be submitted, along with any supporting data, to the Vice President for Student Services. The Vice President for Student Services may request a conversation with the student prior to making a decision.Notice of Acceptance
New and former students will be notified officially of their acceptance and opportunities for assessment, orientation and advisement appointments after all application forms have been received. Complete instructions, along with current exemption criteria and challenge procedures are included in the "Welcome" packet.Alternative Matriculation for Students with Disabilities
Applicants to the college who have a disability and feel they cannot participate in the Student Success Program due to the limitations imposed by their disability are eligible for alternative matriculation services. These services may include:
- special assessment by the Testing Coordinator
- special assessment by the Learning Disability Specialist
- one-on-one orientation and advisement with Disabled Student Services Program Staff
- one-on-one development of an Educational Plan with a staff member of Disabled Student Services
- priority registration
To qualify for alternative matriculation the applicant must:
- inform the Admissions and Records Office or the Disabled Student Services Office of the student's disability and ask to be considered for the alternative matriculation program.
- submit written documentation by a professional (e.g. Physician, Psychologist, LD Specialist etc.) verifying the disability.
